Location: Huntington Beach. Subject: ocean sunsets.
With one exception, I hate the end of summer (particularly this one, one of the best ever). In the summer we’re often too distracted by running around doing fun summer stuff that sunsets get neglected. When the days get shorter and the nights colder, I seem to have more time to spend with them.
Like the smiles of loved ones, sunsets are always magic. Every now and then we need to stop, take them in, and remind ourselves of their importance. Below are 5 poor attempts to capture the amazing view I had today. Click to pop.
Gorgeous! The last one is my favorite! The last 3 times I tried to shoot the beach at sunset an entire blanket of thick gray clouds rolled in and blocked out any possible pretty light. No clouds all summer long, except when I try to hit the beach. The sun hates me, we’re not friends. Which beach did you go to?
Thick gray clouds are cool too! Try setting your WB to “cloudy” to pull out more red, and then increasing the blue/green saturation in your camera just a touch. That can sometimes help make a gray day at the ocean look more “sun setty”.
This was at the Cliffs in HB, just before you hit the Bolsa Chica wetlands.
Yeah, normally I’m all over some clouds, but these were the kinds of clouds that didn’t let ANY light through. I rarely go down that far in Huntington, I’ll have to check it out.
augh i miss HB, and the best summer i ever had with out exception! i’m still trying to think of ideas for your seeing double project! one of these days im gonna come up with one that will knock your socks off! we absolutely have to do one when you’re in Ireland! something irishy… maybe a irish sport one or something. could be an old irish pub scene!hmmm, i’ll think of one!
